Otchin Vezholstaya - An ad by Yeka
What in the world was Meir saying?
This year during color war, the winning team of Mitzvah made a Coca-Cola advertisement that aired on w.y.e.k.a. in the Belanova region, for the entertainment of the local babushkas. Each staff member would say his most innate feeling about Coke. (See video at the bottom of this post). Meir too, expressed his feeling, although it is debatable what he meant.
Well I guess this post is geared to those a little more versed in the Russian language. After watching the video one evening, trying to get the full picture, I couldn't get for the life of mine, what Meir was saying. Asking him on the following day in 770, shed little light. “Otchin Vezholostaya” he told me. I said “Who”? That is what he was told to say, however it might be possible that he didn't correctly understand it, not having majored in Russian literature, explained Meir.
Asking some local friends originating from
Akiva maintained that the word must have been влажный – wet or moist. That’s true.
Dovid Litvishenko’s opinion: вежливо – polite and civil. Well, maybe Meir was asking to please pass the coke.
Yasha Gurevitz (not pictured) said it reminds him of выживать – to survive. He must have been dying for some coke.
Boruch Leder: выживает – gives life. Now there’s a compliment to Coca-Cola. Tzali Chechetka: жидкая – liquid or watery. Can't argue.
Yehudah Tzik after initially stating that this was глупост – nonsense, and convincing him of the urgency of the matter conceded to respond. Живистая (slang for выносливый) -which means hardy and of great endurance. (Obviously this is only before the fizz runs out).
Well, What do you think? Now it's your turn to decide. As for me, I think I'll stick to Dr. Pepper for tonight. Happy Drinking!
